Be happy! It is good for your business.

Be happy! It is good for your business

No one wants to be miserable, but sometimes sadness can arrive in many different forms. When you run your own business, many people can be surprised that you are slightly down at the mouth. They assume that owning a small business can give you the ultimate freedom and wealth ñ that they imagine must come with the territory. But in many cases, being self-employed can be an incredibly stressful experience. The buck always stops with you, and any problem is ultimately your problem. It is easy to become overwhelmed if something goes wrong, and one mistake on your part can be catastrophic for the company.

Happiness or unhappiness at work is one of the greatest factors involved with stress related problems, such as depression, migraines, back ache, and even heart problems. It is therefore absolutely vital that you, for the same of your company, your employees, and your own health, concentrate on keeping happy. It has also been proven in a study that happier people actually work harder. So instead of concentrating on all of the things that could go wrong, but have not, why not spend a little time ensuring that your peace of mind is just as secure as your profits?

Take an hour out of your working day today, and write down five things that you are proud of. They can be work related, family related, or just really personal. Stick those things somewhere you can see them easily, and whenever you feel as if everything is getting the better of you, remind yourself that you are successful already. Another easy way to be happier at work is to make time for yourself. Don't stay late doing work that could easily be done the next morning. It's not going anywhere, but you should be. Time for yourself doesn't automatically mean a deficit for the business ñ unless you are relaxed and well-rested, you can't bring your best to the office.

A fear of failure can make some people very unhappy at work, but you cannot give in to this fear. It is only by challenging yourself, and allowing yourself to be challenged, that you can progress at all. The important thing to remember is to ignore your own criticism. Instead, find a business mentor, someone who is a few steps ahead of you, that can clearly tell you areas which you can improve on, without dragging you down.
