How to set up a small business

If you want to strike out into the world of the self-employed, then starting up your own small business is the best way to start. But businesses often seem so complicated and confusing ñ what is required to make sure that your business is not only legal, but successful?

Well, here are the best Six things to do when starting up your small business:

1. Know what you want to do.
Whatever your passion is, there will be a way to make a living from it. If you know your area of expertise, then start researching and finding out what can make you money. Talk to other people within your niche, and see what they think is missing. By filling that space, your business could be a great success.

2. Make sure you can financially support yourself.
You'll need money to get you off the ground, so whether you have to beg or borrow, find some funding that can keep you afloat for as long as it takes to start being solvent.

3. Register your company name, and sort out the paperwork.
This is the long and complicated bit, but as long as you do everything right, you shouldn't meet any problems. After registering your company name, buy a website domain name, and get a Tax Identification Number. Find premises, if you need them, and make sure that you have all of the permits your area requires.

4. Hire employees.
This stage isn't for everyone, but sometimes small businesses need extra pairs of hands from the very go. Take people on that will work hard, and you can trust to do the job properly.

5. Start working!
The long hard journey to success starts here, but the rewards are marvelous. So get walking, and enjoy the views!

6. Set up a Website.
Today, more and more consumers use the internet to search for the products or services they need. Your small business will gain credibility by having a website. Without one, potential customers will go to your competitors that do. If you already have a website but it is "home-made", having it professionally redesigned will provide your business with a professional image which will inspire even greater confidence. For home-based businesses, this is particularly beneficial since you do not have a store front to promote your products or services.
